Crossing from Guatemala to Honduras: My 3 AM Backpacker Experience + Tips

3:00 AM Pickup in Antigua (Or So I Thought…)
It was pitch dark in Antigua. No crowds. No cafés open. Just me. Half asleep, backpack on, standing alone on the street at 3:00 AM. Honestly, I was mentally preparing to get ghosted by the shuttle. And I almost did. The shuttle showed up at 4:25 AM (not 3:15 AM). No message. No explanation.
Then came the classic backpacker plot twist: We had to go back and forth picking up a “missing passenger” because there were two hotels with the same name. By the time we actually left Antigua, it was 5:40 AM. Already 3 hours behind schedule and straight into traffic.
The Unexpected Highlight: El Florido Border Crossing
Just when I thought the day was doomed, the El Florido border crossing completely surprised me. This was hands down one of the easiest border crossings I’ve ever done. Here’s why:
