Unforgettable Cappadocia: A 48-Hour Adventure
Our early morning flight from Istanbul to Cappadocia didn’t start well. The travel agency forgot to pick us up for the airport transfer. Upon landing, things didn’t improve. No one showed up again. But luck found us in the form of a kind van driver who offered us a lift to the cave hotel with other travelers. Small kindnesses go a long way.
Despite the rough start, our Day 1 tour took us through Cappadocia’s iconic
sights:
· Devrent Valley and its whimsical rock formations
· Monks Valley (Pasabag) with towering fairy chimneys
· Avanos, where we watched skilled hands shape
pottery
· The incredible Göreme Open Air Museum is carved into rock
That evening, we explored the
town and had a hearty dinner under the starry Anatolian sky.
Day 2 was all about nature and culture:
hiking through Rose
Valley and the White Castle area, a stop at a traditional carpet factory, and finally descending into the
eerie depths of the Underground
City.
Sadly, the much-anticipated hot air balloon ride was cancelled due to rain and wind.
We ended the day arguing with the agency for refunds (hot air balloon and the airport transfer). Evening flight back to
Istanbul wrapped it all up.
Cappadocia, chaotic yet captivating. Would I go back? Absolutely.
