Traveling
during Holy Week in the Philippines can be challenging due to the surge of
commuters heading home to their provinces. I experienced this firsthand when I
found myself unable to secure a Fastcraft ticket from Cagayan de Oro to
Camiguin. A helpful staff member at my pension house advised me to take a bus
to Balingoan Port and catch a boat from there. This change in plans meant I
wouldn't reach Camiguin until 4 PM, missing half a day of exploration.
At Balingoan Port, an elderly gentleman noticed I was a
visitor and kindly assisted me. He ensured my safety, helped me obtain tickets
for the last boat of the day, and even accompanied me to Benoni Port in
Camiguin. His kindness made my journey smoother and more enjoyable.
Upon arrival at Villa Paraiso Resort in Mambajao, I settled
in and then ventured out to find a meal. Afterward, I visited Enigmata
Eco-Lodge, a unique treehouse accommodation run by artists. The artistic
ambiance was captivating, and I wished I could have stayed longer.

As the sun set, I walked back to the resort, hoping to find a ride. When none appeared, I stopped at a roadside halo-halo stall, where the friendly vendor introduced me to a local motorbike driver. This serendipitous encounter led to a memorable island tour the next day.

Touring
the Island
The next morning, my ride arrived right on time. The motorbike driver I met last night. He turned out to be my guide, driver, and all-day adventure buddy.
Exploring the island on two wheels was such a thrill! Once again, my adventurous side kicked in. I mean, riding through a mountainous island with someone I just met, basically handing over my life to a total stranger. That’s the kind of wild travel story I live for. Definitely another unforgettable experience!

The island of Camiguin is one of the most beautiful islands in the Philippines. The advantage of Camiguin versus other local tourist destinations lies in the “completeness” of its natural environment and the high diversity of the ecosystem. Because of this write ups i was thinking of travelling there in the near future. Thank you for sharing.
